A child and his mother at the YMCA and POOLCORP SWIMPACT event.
Water safety is critical in the Tampa Bay area as drowning is the leading cause of unintentional deaths of children in the United States. On Saturday, May 25th, POOLCORP generously sponsored a free two-hour SWIMPACT water safety lesson at our South Tampa YMCA.
Under the warm sun, children who might not have had the opportunity otherwise, eagerly jumped into our Y pool to cool down and learn crucial, lifesaving water safety skills.
SWIMPACT allowed children to engage in various in-pool activities, each designed to enhance their safety and swimming skills. These activities included survival skills such as pushing off from the bottom of the pool to resurface, safety skills like water rescue techniques and identifying a safe place to swim, and basic swim skills like floating, blowing bubbles and beginner swim strokes.
The SWIMPACT was more than a fun morning learning how to be safe in and around the water; it was a testament to community partnerships and the power of corporate social responsibility. In addition to the free two-hour lessons, POOLCORP generously donated $37,375 to the Tampa YMCA. Their contributions are an additional lifeline for numerous children who might not otherwise be able to afford swim lessons.
The YMCA offers a variety of swim and water safety programs for individuals of all ages and skill levels. Click here or visit your local Y center to learn more!
