You still have time to be a part of the Tampa YMCA’s Community Impact Week, sponsored by Regions. In place of the annual Community Impact Dinner and to ensure the safety of the community, the Tampa Y is hosting a 4-day virtual celebration next week, March 22-25. The virtual experience will include compelling videos, stories and more — to celebrate the Y’s impact, thank donors and honor community volunteers.

During the celebration, Feeding Tampa Bay President & CEO Thomas Mantz will receive the 2021 Community Impact Award for his dedication and positive impact on the Tampa Bay community. “Thomas Mantz exemplifies the very purpose of what the Community Impact Award is all about,” shares Tampa YMCA President & CEO Matt Mitchell. “His service to the community throughout the pandemic has been vital to the health and well-being of our kids and families. He did more than provide food and nourishment to those in need… he also displayed values of compassion and caring through actions that are examples for us all to live by.”

Previous recipients of the Community Impact Award include former Hillsborough County Superintendent Jeff Eakins, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, Jeff & Penny Vinik, Doretha Edgecomb, Richard Gonzmart, former Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan, former Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandra Murman, former Florida CFO Alex Sink, former Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and former Hillsborough County Superintendent MaryEllen Elia.

Also during the celebration, Tampa Y longtime supporters Cy and Joanne Spurlino will be recognized with the Red Triangle Award. This prestigious award is given to Y volunteers whose leadership, dedicated service and devotion to the Y mission have made significant and lasting impact in the community. “The Red Triangle Award recognizes those who empower the Y to fulfill our promise to the community,” says Matt. “No one has held our hand more tightly than Cy and Joanne Spurlino and we are so fortunate to have them as friends. It is an honor to recognize them as true owners of our mission and purpose.”

Ten “Volunteers of the Year” from Y family centers will also be recognized during the week of March 22-25, as we share videos and stories of impact online for you to enjoy as you learn about the Y’s impact. You don’t have to a Facebook user to tune in and these are not live events so feel free to join when most convenient to you.
