Why Families Choose YMCA Preschool

Our smaller classroom environments allow teachers to build meaningful relationships with children and provide individualized attention throughout the day.

Our FREE Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program helps prepare children for kindergarten through engaging learning experiences focused on early literacy, math, independence, and social-emotional development.

Our VPK classrooms provide a nurturing environment where children build confidence, develop friendships, and strengthen the skills needed for future school success.

VPK is offered at Central City Family YMCA, YMCA Camp Sierra and Morgan Woods Elementary. Program schedules vary by location, with extended care options available for families needing additional hours.

Our program partners with Hillsborough County's Quality Early Education System, providing teachers with coaching, professional development, and classroom support to ensure high-quality learning experiences.

Our dedicated educators create nurturing environments where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to explore and learn. Teachers complete Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) training requirements focused on child development, health and safety, and quality classroom practices.

In addition, our teachers participate in a minimum of 10 hours of annual in-service training and ongoing professional development opportunities to continue strengthening their skills and enhancing the learning experiences they provide for children.

Through our partnership with Hillsborough County’s Quality Early Education System (QEES), teachers receive additional coaching and support focused on high-quality teaching practices and positive child outcomes.

Children develop literacy, math, social-emotional, and self-help skills that prepare them for success in kindergarten and beyond.

We intentionally teach Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility through daily interactions and experiences.

We believe families are a child's first teacher and work closely with parents through ongoing communication and collaboration.
