On January 10, 2024, we celebrated the Fifth Anniversary of our Spurlino Family YMCA at Big Bend Road. Hundreds of individuals gathered throughout the day to celebrate and reflect on the incredible journey our Y has taken to become an integral part of the Riverview community.
Over the past five years, the Spurlino YMCA has grown, evolved and consistently strived to enrich the lives of our members and community. Since the YMCA's inception, we have accomplished big things.
From 2018 to 2023 the Spurlino YMCA:
- Distributed 14,375 YMCA scholarships through our Open Doors financial assistance program
- Served 38,154 individual YMCA members
- Strengthened 11,800 children through our youth sports programs
- Ensured 9,191 children are safe in and around the water
- Welcomed 8,763 children to embrace fun, friends and adventure in our YMCA summer camps
We are proud to build on our deep-rooted history of impacting children, families and seniors and ensuring all reach their full potential. Our commitment to inclusivity and diversity has allowed us to create a welcoming environment for members from various backgrounds and abilities.
Thom Sanborn, a member of the Spurlino YMCA shared, “We have always been a workout family.”
He adds, “One of the reasons we made the move to Florida was that my wife was diagnosed with a progressive disease and we needed to start to slow down. The staff at the Spurlino YMCA is amazing. They have become an extended family for us. Everyone treated my wife with understanding and dignity. We were able to extend the quality of life for her because of the staff and members. My wife was able to do a lot of different group exercise classes and was accepted by the instructors and participants. The Y is truly a very valuable place for the community. I would like to express to anyone considering a workout facility that they consider a place like this because of the kindness and concern of each member."
"At the Spurlino YMCA they are constantly looking toward the future. They continue to be heavily involved in the community and offer many different events for all. They are also always keeping up with the latest and greatest with classes, equipment and technology.”
As we look to the future, we will continue to embrace innovation in health and wellness. Our state-of-the-art facility, technology and programming will allow us to emphasize our member's holistic well-being.
Jarrod Williams, Executive Director at the Spurlino YMCA shares:
“I am so proud of the work we have done at the Spurlino YMCA to strengthen our community since opening our doors in January 2019. In the past five years, we have served over 34,000 households and provided over $1,000,000 in Open Door subsidies, ensuring ALL families and individuals in our community have the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
“The most exciting thing about all of this is that we are just getting started. With the opening of our new indoor gymnasium coming in the fall of 2024, we will be able to further meet the needs of our growing community by enhancing our member experience with new programs such as indoor pickleball, youth volleyball and adult sports programming, all the while continuing to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all,” he adds.
As we celebrate this milestone, we are grateful for the support of our members, staff, donors, partners and community members. The past five years have been a testament to the power of togetherness, community and the impact that a dedicated organization can have on the lives of others.
We look forward to continuing our journey and furthering our impact by creating a healthier, stronger and more connected community for many years to come. Thank you for supporting our Spurlino YMCA family.
