The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA is proud to celebrate Quentin Prather, a graduating senior from Middleton High School who was awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the Mary & Bob Sierra Family Foundation.

Quentin participated in Teen Achievers during the program’s first year at Middleton High School. In just one year, he took advantage of opportunities designed to help teens prepare for college, explore career pathways, develop leadership skills and build relationships with caring adults who believe in their potential.

This fall, Quentin plans to attend Florida A&M University, where he will study accounting and work toward becoming a certified public accountant.

“I am excited to attend FAMU and begin working toward my goal of becoming a CPA,” Quentin said. “I hope to use what I learn to support underserved communities and help young people understand the importance of financial literacy." He hopes to inspire the next generation and prove that circumstances do not define your future but the effort you put in every day does.

Quentin’s scholarship is an important investment in his future and a meaningful recognition of his hard work, leadership and ambition. It is also an example of what can happen when young people are connected with encouragement, resources and opportunities to pursue their goals.

Through Teen Achievers, the Tampa YMCA helps students envision what is possible after high school and take meaningful steps toward college, careers and community leadership. By bringing the program to Middleton High School, the Y was able to reach students where they are and provide additional support as they prepared for their next chapter.

That work is made possible through the generosity of donors and community partners who believe every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed. Donor support helps the Tampa YMCA expand programs like Teen Achievers, connect more students with mentors and create pathways to brighter futures.

The Tampa YMCA is proud of Quentin Prather and grateful to everyone who helps make these opportunities possible. As he begins his journey at FAMU, his YMCA family will be cheering him on and looking forward to the impact he will make in his career and his community.
