Turning Soil and Breaking Ground for the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA

Cheers, applause and YMCA spirit filled the air on Wednesday, May 28, as we officially broke ground on our newest facility, the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA.
Held at the construction site on Wellbeing Way, the groundbreaking ceremony brought together community leaders, dignitaries, donors, volunteers and representatives from the YMCA and BayCare Health System.
The highlight of the ceremony was the official unveiling of the facility’s name, honoring Mary W. Sierra and her family’s transformational support and enduring commitment to the YMCA’s mission.
The two-story, 49,319-square-foot facility is designed to be a vibrant community hub where toddlers can splash safely in a family adventure pool. At the same time, your older kids can build confidence through swim lessons or youth sports. The wellness floor will offer all your favorite equipment, and the group fitness studios will offer a class for every fitness level. The Teen Leaders Program will offer a space where every teen can find belonging through leadership development and volunteer opportunities. Meanwhile, seniors will have many options to stay active and socially connected.
Matt Mitchell, President and CEO at the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA, shares, “Every community deserves a great YMCA where kids can grow in health and confidence, adults can progress along their path to better well-being and seniors can thrive in a welcoming social environment. We are excited and look forward to engaging the growing Wesley Chapel area.”
Designed by Fleischman Garcia Maslowski Architecture and built by Creative Contractors, the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA is expected to open in the summer of 2026. Once completed, it will serve over 40,000 households and create more than 300 new jobs, becoming a cornerstone of health, wellness and community connection in the region.
A special thank you goes to our friends at BayCare Health System, the Sierra Family, Joanne Spurlino and the Spurlino Foundation, Congresswoman Laurel Lee, David and Liz Kennedy, Dan Bergin, Creative Contractors, Fleischman Garcia Maslowski Architecture, Valley Bank and the Seven Oaks community.
Here’s to building a stronger Wesley Chapel together!
