Tampa YMCA staff with award

The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA is extremely honored to be recognized alongside 18 other local heroes who work together to meet the community’s critical needs during these challenging times. In a virtual awards ceremony on July 21, City of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor presented 19 recipients with heart-shaped sculptures, declaring those awarded to be COVID-19 Heroes of Tampa Bay.

The effort was a collective show of support to those who are supporting the community in the midst of the coronavirus. The Y sincerely thanks all of our supporters for voting for us!

“I thank each and every one of you. Everyone on this call really defines what is great about our city and I could not be more honored to be a part of the City of Tampa than I am right now. It’s those most trying and difficult times where character shines through and each of you has shown that your character, your strength, your initiative, your willingness to help others - has shined very bright in our community,” said Mayor Castor during the virtual ceremony. “We’re not out of the woods yet. We have some distance still to go but what gives me comfort is that we will travel that path together.”
