Strength, Community and Determination on Display at the Hero’s Triathlon
On Sunday, March 29, the Spurlino Family YMCA came alive with energy, encouragement and inspiring moments during this year’s Hero’s Triathlon.
Thirty-two dedicated members showed up ready to challenge themselves and support one another in a unique indoor triathlon format. Participants completed a 10-minute lap swim, a 30-minute spin bike ride and 20 minutes on the treadmill, pushing their limits across four waves of friendly competition.
The event brought together families, friends, disciplined athletes and individuals simply looking to start their Sunday morning with fun fitness and a sense of accomplishment. No matter their starting point, each participant shared a common goal to give their best and celebrate the journey together.
One of the most inspiring moments of the day came from longtime member and board member Ellsworth Buell. After experiencing a stroke, Ells returned to the triathlon with determination and heart, setting his sights on improving his time from last year. With his wife, caregiver and YMCA friends cheering him on, he not only met his goal, he surpassed it, reminding everyone in the room what perseverance truly looks like.
Events like the Hero’s Triathlon are about more than competition. They are about community, encouragement and creating opportunities for all. Proceeds from the event support the Spurlino YMCA’s annual giving campaign, helping ensure life-changing programs remain accessible to everyone regardless of ability to pay.
At the Tampa YMCA, moments like these are what bring our mission to life. When individuals come together to challenge themselves and lift each other up, there is No Place Like This Place.
