Dominique Dennard (pictured above on the right) and his family are ecstatic about the new Spurlino Family YMCA gymnasium. The facility was opened on January 9, 2025, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Tampa YMCA and Hillsborough County leaders.

“We have been members since the Spurlino YMCA opened six years ago. We always wanted an indoor gym to get out of the elements. It is great to see this now. We visit the YMCA at least four times a week as my boys enjoy playing basketball. Thanks to the Spurlino Y conveniently located in the community, we can prioritize health and fitness for our family while spending quality time together,” shared Dennard.

The facility opened a day before Spurlino Family YMCA’s sixth anniversary. Located at 9650 Old Big Bend Road in Riverview, the $7 million gym is 18,345 square feet and provides space for 500 additional community families.

Creative Contractors, based in Clearwater, completed the gymnasium and built the main Spurlino Family YMCA in 2019. Tampa’s well-known firm, FleischmanGarciaMaslowski, was the architect.

Jarrod Williams, Spurlino Y’s Executive Director was excited for the ceremony.

“This is not just a momentous occasion for our YMCA but a significant milestone for our entire community. We have welcomed over 100,000 individuals to our YMCA since we opened. This new space is about much more than a gym. It will serve as a vibrant hub for community connection, allowing us to expand and enhance our summer camp programs, group fitness classes, sports offerings and so much more.”

Matt Mitchell, President and CEO noted, “we are deeply grateful to our generous donors and community partners, whose contributions were vital to this project.”

Spurlino Y and all Tampa YMCA centers are offering a limited-time $5 join fee from January 16-31, 2025. Join today.
