Donors, board members, staff and community partners gathered at the future Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA on July 24 for a special commemorative wall signing and hard hat tour.

The morning began with a brief ceremony under the pavilion, where Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA President and CEO Matt Mitchell and Seth Weightman, Pasco County Commissioner, shared remarks celebrating the generosity, collaboration and community support helping bring the new family center to life.

Following the ceremony, guests were invited to leave a permanent mark on the building by signing a commemorative banner that was hung behind what will become the new YMCA’s Welcome Center. The banner will be sealed behind the wall as construction continues, preserving the names and messages of those who helped make the new YMCA possible.

Each guest received a Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA hard hat and commemorative pen before adding their signature to the banner. Attendees were then given a special tour of the construction site and a firsthand look at the spaces that will soon welcome children, families, seniors and neighbors from throughout the Wesley Chapel community.

The wall signing represented more than a milestone in construction. It celebrated the people behind the project and the shared belief that communities are stronger when everyone has access to opportunities that support health, connection, growth and belonging.

When the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA opens, guests may not be able to see the banner behind the Welcome Center wall, but the commitment of those who signed it will be reflected throughout the building and in the lives of the people served there for generations to come.

The Tampa YMCA is deeply grateful to the donors, volunteers, board members, community partners and local leaders whose vision and support continue to move the Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA forward.
