AdventHealth Mammography bus at YMCA parking lot under a tree

The AdventHealth 3D Mobile Mammography bus stopped at the Campo Family YMCA on June 7th.

One in 8 women will get diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

In partnership with AdventHealth, two of Tampa’s Y centers hosted 3D Mobile Mammography buses earlier this month. The service makes it easy for women to take charge of their health by bringing health care right to their workplace, school, and even the communities in which they live.

Y members and staff at the Campo and Spurlino Y’s were offered this convenient and life-saving service. Nearly two dozen women signed up to get their yearly mammograms. The process is simple and only takes 10 minutes.

“We make it very convenient. We make it very easy for women to come out and get their mammogram and go right back to work. We bring it to them,” says AdventHealth Lead Mammographer Beth Davis.

LIVESTRONG® at the Y graduate Sharon Harris says she wouldn’t have known she had breast cancer had it not been for a mammogram and strongly believed in them. She’s been cancer free for three years now. She says if telling people her story and sharing cancer journey can help even one woman, it’s well worth it.

“I find it extremely important for women to get screened. I found my cancer because of a mammogram. (Cancer) is preventable,” Sharon says. “And if you’re on the fence about it, she says, “Please come. It’s not painful. The people here know exactly what they’re doing.”

Women ages 40 and older do not need a prescription or a referral to get screened. Women ages 35-39 will need a prescription from a physician. Most major carriers, including Medicare (but not Medicaid), will pay 100% of their yearly mammogram. There is also a self-pay option of $155 for those without insurance.

The Mammography bus will be at the South Tampa Y, 4411 S. Himes, Tampa, on June 23, 2021 from 12:30-2:30 pm. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. Visit the AdventHealth’s website for more information or to make an appointment.
