Have you ever met someone who can lift your spirits with just one smile? That’s Sammy Cully for many people at the Bob Sierra North Tampa Family YMCA. As she works hard to keep the wellness floor and machines sparkling clean, she never hesitates to stop and engage in friendly conversation.   Sammy started volunteering for the Y through The Grow Group, an organization that helps those with disabilities find volunteer and job opportunities. For almost a year now, Sammy’s been part of the Bob Sierra Y family.   “The Bob Sierra Y has been positively impacted in many ways since Sammy joined the team,” says Center Administrative Coordinator Erin Woods. “She loves to chat with our members and staff. She jokes around with them too, which is a delight!” Membership Experience Director Michelle Sussman adds, “She has developed some friendships with staff who look forward to greeting her when she’s here. They get a lot of enjoyment seeing her around.”   As a Special Olympics athlete who enjoys bowling and horseback riding, Sammy had the chance to attend the Tim Tebow Foundation’s 5th Annual Night to Shine event this year. Sammy’s Y family was psyched to hear all about the worldwide event honoring those with special needs.   Adaptive adults sometimes can feel lost with the urge to be independent but no real means to do so. As a welcoming and inclusive nonprofit, we are proud Sammy chose the Tampa Y as her place to give back. Thanks, Sammy, for everything you do for the Y and our community!
