Where it all Began
Starting from humble beginnings more than 15 years ago, when a group of joggers met at the Downtown YMCA to run before starting their Thanksgiving Day festivities, this once small gathering has turned into a cherished Tampa tradition.
The Tampa YMCA Turkey Gobble transcends generations of participants as they gather to celebrate the holiday with families, friends and co-workers while furthering the cause of the Tampa YMCA to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
Run for a Cause
The 8th Annual Tampa YMCA Turkey Gobble presented by Florida Blue encompasses our mission to build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Thousands of runners, walkers, marathoners and fluffy four-legged trotters will join us for this year’s race.

The Tampa YMCA Turkey Gobble is a fun way for our members to embrace our mission of a healthy spirit, mind and body for all - while enjoying a morning of exercise with loved ones and supporting our LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program,” shares Dawn Kita, Director of Community Health at the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA.
All proceeds from the Tampa YMCA Turkey Gobble benefit LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA and healthy living programs. LIVESTRONG® is a free 12-week program that provides in-person support for those who are living with, through or beyond cancer. Our certified cancer wellness coaches provide physical and social activities for participants, and foster a supportive environment that encourages members to create connections and build relationships. Providing support to members before, during and after their cancer treatments.
The 2022 Tampa YMCA Turkey Gobble registration is live! Register today to secure your spot and before Sunday, Oct. 30 before the cost increases. Race registration will remain open until noon on Wednesday, Nov. 23. We also have a Virtual 5K option for those who may be traveling and want to support the Y.
Strollers and dogs are welcome, and we ask that you register them appropriately. Following the race, on-site results will be available, additionally, we will email participants their times and list them on the Tampa Turkey Gobble Facebook page.
The Tampa YMCA Turkey Gobble will take place at 7am Thanksgiving Day at Amalie Arena, 401 Channelside Drive in Tampa.

This year, Gobblers will receive a chip-timed numbered bib for the 8K and 5K race, a dri-fit t-shirt and finisher medal for all participants.
Prizes include ASICS shoes (value up to $200 per pair) to the top three female and top three male runners (in-person racers only). In addition, prizes will be awarded to:
- 1st place overall male/female adult
- 1st place overall male/female youth (ages 9 and under)
- 1st place age groups from age 10 – 80+
